Prize for Pride

“We have heard of the pride of Moab- He is very proud…” Isaiah 16:6a

Summery: -Being notable for pride is not a credit; a famous crash down may be the outcome. Yet God in His mercy warns us before He act.

It seems writer wants to say that an award for pride must be given to Moab: they are well-known for their pride! .

Pride is one of the serious evils that God hates so much. It was this sin that brought Lucifer and the associates down from their original position. Whoever follows Satan to boast of their position, possessions and stature, all of them were judged severely.

Pride of Moab was especially famous. They boasted in their fortifications and wealth. They never honoured the God of Israel. They showed no kindness for Israel in their trouble. They turned a blind eye even when they were aware of the need of the children Israel. It is this haughtiness that brought the people of Moab to the lowest state. Isaiah says, “Therefore Moab shall wail for Moab; every one shall wail’. V 7a.

God will never allow our arrogance to go unpunished. Let us examine if there is any kind of pride even if it is ‘spiritual pride’. .

Even a feeling of superiority over others in relation to our goodness or holiness could also be a subtle manifestation of pride within us. There are some who never open their mouth; we may think that they are pious and godly. However, that could be the result of secret pride! They think they are so godly, obedient and good. No one else is qualified up to their level, so they just shun others!

Check it; sooner or later we will have to face the consequences of pride. Collapse will be inevitable. Are we known for pride? Before too late, escape the imminent fall that always follows pride.
