Global Meet to Save the Earth

Thousands of delegates from 192 countries have gathered together at Copenhagen , the capital of Denmark with sole intention of saving planet earth.

The whole world is watching the events at the United Nations Climate Change Conference December 7 – 18, 2009 - COP15 – at Copenhagen with much expectation. It is anticipated that the world leaders will announce a new global climate treaty to control global warming on 18 December, the last day.

Last such world meet was in 1992. Global carbon emissions have increased by about 18 per cent since then. Global temperature increased 0.74 degree Celsius over the last centaury and expected to rise between 1.1 and 6.4 degree Celsius this centaury.

Extreme whether changes are already playing havoc in many lands. Poor harvest, water shortage and the subsequent high cost for food have made life miserable for common man. According to an NGO Germanwatch, in India alone 3255 people die annually due to climate change.

If the condition goes in the same way future life is very bleak. Rising seal level will kill or displace millions of people. Even many cities close to sea may disappear!

The question is, can these world leaders save the earth? Any effort is commendable but we can not ignore what the Bible says about the earth.

“The earth is violently broken, the earth is split open, the earth is shaken exceedingly. The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall totter like a hut; its transgression shall be heavy upon it, and it will fall, and not rise again.” Isaiah 24:19, 20.

Our effort to save the earth and make a better world can not come true in its fullest sense, as long as we disregard the Creator and ignore His demands. The need of the hour more than any thing else is to come back to God the creator and know His purpose and yield to Him.

Effort to save the earth is not bad, but paying no heed to save our soul is terrible!
